Press the spacebar to startThe timer starts with your first press. Holding the key down does not count.

This test needs a physical keyboard.

How the spacebar counter works

Choose a test length and press the spacebar as quickly as you can. Each press is timed the moment your keyboard sends it, using the browser’s high-resolution clock. Held keys and automatic key repeats are ignored, so the score shows how fast your fingers really are.

When the time is up you see your presses per second, your best single second, the shortest gap between two presses and a chart of your speed over the whole round. Your best score for every length is kept in your browser.

Tips for a higher score

Is your spacebar working properly?

If some presses do not seem to register, or a single press sometimes counts twice, your switch or stabilizer may be wearing out. Check every key, including space, with the keyboard tester.

Frequently asked questions

Does holding the spacebar count?

No. When you hold a key down, your computer repeats it automatically. Those repeated presses are ignored, so only real, separate presses of the spacebar are counted.

What is a good spacebar score?

Most people manage 5 to 7 presses per second. Around 8 is fast, and players who tap with two thumbs or alternate fingers can go well above 10.

Can I use the spacebar counter on a phone?

The test needs a physical keyboard, because on-screen keyboards do not have a real spacebar. Connect a Bluetooth or USB keyboard to a phone or tablet and it will work.

Why does the page not scroll when I press space?

Normally the spacebar scrolls the page down. While this page is open, space is reserved for the test, so the page stays put and you can keep your eyes on the counter.

Is the spacebar counter the same as a CPS test?

It works the same way, just with a key instead of a mouse button. Your score is the number of presses divided by the length of the test.
